Aikido Kokikai South Everett is a martial arts school dedicated to the art of Kokikai Aikido.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that has its origins in feudal Japan. Over time, aikido has become known as "the gentle art of self-defense," because it focuses on using timing and positioning to take away an opponent's balance.

Kokikai Aikido is one of the most modern styles of aikido. Founded by Sensei Shuji Maruyama, in Kokikai Aikido we use natural movements to take away our opponent's posture and balance. Kokikai aikido is known for its ability to adapt to changing situations. Our practice typically focuses on understanding why a movement is correct, as opposed to simply memorizing a response to an attack. The result is that, through Kokikai Aikido, we can understand how to adapt to a variety of situations.

At Aikido Kokikai South Everett, we have a wide curriculum of aikido practice. Our general aikido classes are open to teens and adults, regardless of whether you have trained in aikido before. Our kids aikido classes focus on effective self-defense in a fun, dynamic atmosphere. In addition, we offer classes in the tradition weapons of aikido: the jo (short staff), bokken (wooden sword), and tanto (wooden knife).
